Browns sign Greg Newsome II, Anthony Schwartz as rookies report for camp

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – As rookies reported for training camp Saturday in Berea, their last two remaining unsigned picks finalized their rookie contracts.

Greg Newsome II and Anthony Schwartz signed their rookie deals meaning the entire eight-member rookie class is signed in time for the start of camp.


The Browns selected Newsome 26th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft and the Northwestern product is expected to compete for a starting job at corner opposite of Denzel Ward during camp.

Newsome, a first-team Big Ten selection and a third-team All-American in 2020, allowed just a 31.6 percent completion rate to throws in his direction according to Pro Football Focus and led the Big Ten with 10 passes defensed. He did not allow a completion on third down.

Schwartz was selected in the third round, No. 91 overall out of Auburn, was considered one of the fastest members of the class.

He caught 117 passes for 1,433 yards and six touchdowns and also rushed 42 times for 323 yards and seven touchdowns for the Tigers.

Veterans report for training camp on Tuesday.

The Browns’ first practice is scheduled for Wednesday while the first session of camp that will be open to the public takes place Friday.
