Browns stand pat as trade deadline passes without a deal keeping Kareem Hunt in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, OH (92.3 The Fan) – While teams around the NFL made a record amount of moves leading up to Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Browns stood pat.

Running back Kareem Hunt and cornerback Greedy Williams – both the subject of trade speculation in recent days – remain in Cleveland.

EVP/GM Andrew Berry denied Hunt’s trade request in training camp and the running back remained open to being moved following Monday night’s 32-13 win over the Bengals that pushed the Browns to 3-5 heading into the bye week.

Berry was looking for a pick equal to or better than the compensatory pick the team would potentially receive should Hunt depart in free agency but a trade that would meet that demand never materialized.

Hunt, who totaled 72 scrimmage yards on 15 touches Monday night, is in the final year of a two-year contract extension.

Injuries to the secondary likely made trading Williams less appealing to the front office.

Pittsburgh made a pair of trades Tuesday sending receiver Chase Claypool to Chicago and then acquiring cornerback Will Jackson III from Washington in a second deal.

Denver moved linebacker Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins. The Browns travel to Miami November 13 coming out of the bye week.

The moves were news to Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, who had been in meetings prior to his Zoom call with reporters and had not been tracking the activity around the league leading up to the deadline.

A total of 10 trades were made Tuesday around the NFL, the most on deadline day ever.
