Browns to acquire receiver Elijah Moore from Jets for No. 42 pick in 2023 NFL Draft

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Andrew Berry checked the final box off his offseason ‘To-do’ list Wednesday afternoon.

Berry and the Browns agreed to acquire receiver Elijah Moore and a third-round pick – No. 74 from the New York Jets for the No. 42 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The trade, which was officially announced by the Browns later Wednesday, is pending a physical to be officially completed.

Moore, who is just 22 years old, has two years remaining on his rookie contract worth $3.35 million.

With his ability to play in the slot, outside, in the backfield as well as get open downfield, Moore should give quarterback Deshaun Watson a weapon with speed to compliment four-time Pro Bowler Amari Cooper and emerging pass catcher Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Berry explored options in free agency for a downfield threat at receiver as well as a potential trade with Denver for Jerry Jeudy before pulling the trigger on getting Moore from the Jets.

For New York, the trade gives the Jets more ammunition to complete a trade for Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers who announced his intention to play for the team during an interview on the Pat McAfee Show last week. They now have pick Nos. 13, 42 and 43 in the upcoming draft.

Selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Moore, who wanted out of New York due to frustrations with his role, became expendable after the Jets agreed to a one-year contract with Chiefs free agent receiver Mecole Hardman Wednesday afternoon.

In his first two NFL seasons with the Jets, Moore has totaled 80 catches for 984 yards and six touchdowns. He has added 59 rushing yards with one score.

Last season the speedster caught 37 passes for 446 yards and a touchdown after catching 43 passes for 538 yards and five scores as a rookie.
