CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Andrew Berry filled another hole in the defense Thursday, and once again turned to the Rams to do it.
A day after veteran cornerback Terrance Mitchell, who spent the previous three seasons with the Browns, departed for Houston and the Texans, executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry replaced him with free agent cornerback Troy Hill.
Hill agreed to a four-year, $24 million deal according to NFL Network.
A Youngstown, Ohio native, Hill spent five of his first six years in the NFL with the Rams where he became a mainstay in their secondary.
Hill now fills a critical void in the Browns' defensive backfield joining Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams as the primary corners and he reunites with his Rams teammate, safety John Johnson III.
This past season the 29-year-old had three returns for touchdowns – two pick-sixes and a fumble recovery for a score, best in the NFL – while playing 95% of defensive snaps for the top-ranked defense overall and against the pass in Los Angeles.
Berry also added defensive end Takk McKinley this week and re-signed receivers Rashard Higgins and JoJo Natson as well as linebacker Malcolm Smith.
