CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns are dipping into their vast former quarterback pool for their next offensive coordinator.
The team plans to hire Ken Dorsey a league source confirmed to 92.3 The Fan Sunday evening. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the news.
Dorsey, who was fired in the middle of last season by the Buffalo Bills with quarterback Josh Allen struggling, replaces Alex Van Pelt.
Dorsey is among 36 quarterbacks to have started for the Browns since 1999. He started and lost three games during the 2008 season while spending three seasons in Cleveland from 2006-2008.
After playing for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League in 2010, Dorsey went into scouting and was hired by the Carolina Panthers as a scout in 2011.
In 2013 Dorsey moved to the field and took over as the Panthers’ quarterbacks coach where he worked with Cam Newton and coached in Super Bowl 50. Dorsey moved on to Buffalo in 2019 as the Bills QB coach before being promoted in 2021 to passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Dorsey replaced Brian Daboll, who was hired as head coach of the New York Giants, as offensive coordinator in 2022.
Under Dorsey, the Bills finished the 2022 season second in the NFL in scoring and yardage but after the team dropped four of six games following a 3-1 start to the 2023 season he was fired and replaced on November 14, 2023 by quarterbacks coach Joe Brady.
Van Pelt spent four seasons with the Browns before being fired following an 11-6 season that saw the team utilize five different starting quarterbacks and lose to the Texans 45-14 in the AFC Wild Card.
The Browns also interviewed Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, former Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and former Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for the job.
