CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns will kick off the 2022 season in Carolina against the Panthers September 11 and they are scheduled to host the New York Jets in Week 2.
The announcement comes two hours before the complete 2022 season schedule will be unveiled.
Both games will kick off at 1 p.m.
This will be the third consecutive season the Browns open on the road and the first time they will do so in Charlotte.
The Panthers continue to be linked to the Browns in trade talks for quarterback Baker Mayfield and if the two teams complete a deal after talks broke down during Day 2 of the NFL Draft, it would set up a compelling season opener – Mayfield against his former team, Deshaun Watson’s NFL return and Browns debut against the man he replaced in Cleveland.
The Browns are 1-21-1 in Week 1 since returning to the NFL in 1999 with their only victory coming against Baltimore in 2004.
The Jets are coming off a busy offseason that saw them make three first round selections in the draft last month – cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner, receiver Garrett Wilson and defensive end Jermaine Johnson II.
The last time the Jets came to Cleveland, Mayfield orchestrated a 21-17 come-from-behind victory to end a 19-game winless streak in 2018.
The full schedule will be released at 8 p.m. Thursday night.
All Browns games can be heard on Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan, Cleveland’s Classic Rock 98.5 WNCX and the University Hospitals Radio Network.
