CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns were always going to pick up the fifth-year option on left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr.’s rookie contract.
With Tuesday’s deadline to do so approaching, it became official Monday.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was first to report the move that executive vice president of football operations Andrew Berry was asked about on Saturday following the NFL Draft but chose not to answer.
“I think I've touched on this in previous pressers, I won't talk about it in this setting,” Berry said. “We're pleased with Jed.”
Translation: yes, we are.
Wills’ option with worth a guaranteed $14.175 million for 2024.
Berry selected Wills 10th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Since then, Wills has struggled with playing at a high level consistently, especially when dealing with injury but the Browns are satisfied with the development he has shown the last two years.
Wills has started 45 games over three years with the Browns. According to Pro-Football-Reference.com, Wills has been penalized 23 times – 10 holding and 13 false starts – with one other flag being declined.
