CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Andrew Berry’s reconstruction of the Browns defense continued Friday.
After his first two free agency additions signed their contracts – safety John Johnson III and defensive end Takk McKinley, Berry and the Browns signed free agent Colts linebacker Anthony Walker.
“We are adding another smart, tough football player to the fold,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said. “This is a guy that plays hard, plays fast, plays nasty. He can be a quarterback for the defense out there. Really intelligent, heady player.”
ESPN’s Adm Schefter first reported the one-year, $3.5 million agreement.
The news spread quickly, and his former teammates took to twitter to praise Walker.
Darius Leonard and Kenny Moore II took the news especially hard as both players sent out a series of Tweets saluting Walker.
Walker started 48 games for the Colts, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
The 25-year-old has racked up 343 tackles, 19 for a loss, 3 1/2 sacks, 11 passes defensed, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries in four seasons.
Pro Football Focus ranked Walker, who had 92 tackles in 16 starts in 2020, 16th in tackling efficiency.
Walker visited Thursday before putting pen to paper a day later.
“Just in spending some time with him, he loves diving into the X's and O's of this game,” Stefanski said. “Also, he has just proven to be a tremendous teammate over the course of his career.”
Berry also signed Rams free agent cornerback Troy Hill this week.
