
CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns traded receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Detroit Lions an hour before the NFL's 4 p.m. Tuesday trade deadline.
The Browns received a 2025 sixth-round pick in return.
It was the only move made by Browns executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry.
Cleveland selected Peoples-Jones, who was in the final year of his rookie contract, in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Peoples-Jones has been targeted just 18 times in seven games this season and he has eight catches for 97 yards. In 50 games, 30 starts for Cleveland, the Michigan product totaled 117 catches for 1,837 yards and eight touchdowns.
Earlier in the day the team made several practice squad moves, the most significant being signing veteran running back Kenyan Drake. Receiver James Proche was also added along with offensive tackle Geron Christian.
To make room running backs Nate McCrary and Jordan Wilkins were released and offensive tackle Ty Nseke was placed on practice squad/injured after he suffered a biceps injury in Sunday’s 24-20 loss at Seattle.
Drake was a third-round pick by Miami in 2016. He has played in 103 games with 44 starts where he has carried 868 times for 3,866 yards and 33 touchdowns and caught 218 passes for 1,655 yards and eight touchdowns. This season, he appeared in two games for the Ravens where he had two receptions for 31 yards.
Christian was also selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by Washington. Christian has appeared in 49 games with 16 starts between the Commanders (2018-20), Texans (2021, 2023) and Chiefs (2022). He started one game for the Texans this season.
Proche is a former a sixth-round pick by Baltimore in 2020. He has appeared in 43 games for the Ravens. In 15 games last season he recorded eight receptions for 62 yards.
