BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Browns head coach Kevinn Stefanski answered the question everyone has been asking – will we see Deshaun Watson in the preseason.
Here’s the top Brownie Bites from day 12 of camp.
Watson debut – Deshaun Watson will not play Saturday against the Vikings because of the joint practices with Minnesota but he is scheduled to against the Seahawks. “That’s the plan,” Stefanski said. Watson and the first team offense will square off against the Vikings first team defense starting Wednesday.
Red eye – Center Nick Harris got to Cleveland in time for Monday morning’s walk through. “I got the news packed up my stuff, got on a red eye, got here this morning at six, at the walkthrough, now I'm talking to y'all,” Harris said. The Browns, who acquired Harris in a trade Sunday from the Seahawks after backup center Luke Wypler suffered a broken ankle in the preseason opener Saturday, selected Harris in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, so he’s very familiar with how the Browns operate, even with a new offense. “I'm glad to have a job,” Harris said. “I have an opportunity to come back and just compete in a place I'm comfortable in and it feels good to see all my teammates again and see everybody around the building. So I can't complain at all.”
Take a look – There was a rotation at left tackle with the first team offense Monday – James Hudson III started team drills before Hakeem Adeniji and Germain Ifedi also got reps.
Welcome back – Safety Juan Thornhill is off the sidelines and back on the practice field. So was defensive tackle Shelby Harris and receiver Jerry Jeudy.
Plays of the day – Emerson intercepted Deshaun Watson in 11-on-11. During a receiver vs. defensive back drill receiver James Proche II made a juggling catch for a touchdown from Jameis Winston with Cameron Mitchell providing tight coverage.
Helmet giveaway – The Browns gave away another batch of helmets, this time to Briggs High School out of Columbus, Ohio. The donation of 85 helmets is worth $25,000. Earlier this month the Browns outfitted Bedford High School with new helmets. Since 2017 the team has donated nearly 3,700 helmets through their program.
Roster moves – The Browns signed linebacker Brandon Bouyer-Randle, cornerback Faion Hicks and safety Chase Williams. The team waived cornerback Vincent Gray (injury designation), defensive end Marcus Haynes and long snapper Rex Sunahara and terminated the contract of running back John Kelly Jr.
Roll Call – RB Nyheim Hines (NFI-knee), CB Greg Newsome II (NFI-hamstring), S D’Anthony Bell (PUP-shin), RB Nick Chubb (PUP-knee), T Jack Conklin (PUP-knee), DT Dalvin Tomlinson (PUP-knee), T Jedrick Wills Jr. (PUP-knee), S Rodney Harrison (undisclosed), LB Jordan Hicks (undisclosed), OG Michael Dunn (undisclosed), S Ronnie Hickman (back), WR David Bell (quadriceps), S Vincent Gray (groin), LB Nathaniel Watson (quadriceps), and C Luke Wypler (broken ankle-will require surgery) did not practice.
