Former Browns EVP Sashi Brown named Ravens team president

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Sashi Brown is returning to the NFL, and the AFC North.

Brown is stepping down as president of Monumental Basketball, which owns and operates the Washington Wizards of the NBA, WNBA's Mystics and G League's Go-Go, to join the Baltimore Ravens front office as their new team president.

The Ravens made the announcement Friday evening.

Browns will replace longtime Ravens team president Dick Cass, who held the role for 18 years and is retiring at the age of 76.

Brown, who spent five years in Cleveland, oversaw the Browns roster deconstruction and accumulation of salary cap space and draft picks as executive vice president of football operations between January 2016 through December 7, 2017.

The team went 1-27 with Brown in charge of the roster.

Brown’s efforts allowed the Browns to amass over $60 million in salary cap space over two years as well as the No. 1 picks in the 2017 and 2018 NFL Drafts. He made 16 trades, including trading out of the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft that allowed the Eagles to select quarterback Carson Wentz, a deal that remains controversial to this day.

Of the 24 draft picks made over two years by Brown, 11 remain in the NFL with teams – defensive end Emmanual Ogbah (2016 2nd) is with the Dolphins, linebacker Carl Nassib (2016 3rd) the Raiders, offensive tackle Shon Coleman (2016 3rd) the Colts, linebacker Joe Schobert (2016 4th) the Steelers, receiver Rashard Higgins (2016 5th) the Browns, defensive end Myles Garrett (2017 1st overall) the Browns, linebacker Jabrill Peppers (2017 1st) the Giants, tight end David Njoku (2017 1st) Browns, defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi (2017 3rd) the Bengals, offensive lineman Rod Johnson (2017 5th) the Chiefs and kicker Zane Gonzalez (2017 7th) the Panthers – as of the end of the 2021 season.

Brown was hired by the Wizards in 2019 and he was recently signed to a contract extension and promoted to president of Monumental Baseball and special advisor to chairman Ted Leonsis.
