CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Myles Garrett has repeated as Defensive Player of the Year according to his peers.

Garrett was named the Sporting News Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday for a second straight year, joining T.J. Watt as the only players to repeat since the publication began giving out the award in 2008.

Over 800 ballots were cast leaguewide and Garrett received almost a quarter of the vote with 196.

During the 2024 season Garrett became the youngest player to reach 100 sacks in his career and first since the NFL began tracking sacks as an official statistic in 1982 to tally 14 sacks in four consecutive seasons.

Named a Pro Bowler for the sixth time, Garrett finished second in the league with 14.0 sacks to go with a league-leading 22 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Garrett joins Browns Hall of Famers Lou Groza (1954), Otto graham (1955) and Jim Brown (1957, 1958 and 1965) as well as quarterback and league MVP Brian Sipe (1980) to win a Sporting News Player of the Year award.

Garrett is a finalist for the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year award which he won last year and will be announced at NFL Honors on February 6.
