After head coach Joe Judge placed Monday night’s loss on himself and the coaching staff and declined to comment on Jason Garrett’s job security, the Giants have fired the offensive coordinator.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News was the first to report Garrett’s firing on Tuesday afternoon, which the team confirmed soon after.

Judge was overtly supportive of Garrett for much of the season, even as he faced harsh criticism for failing to unlock Big Blue’s offensive potential, but after Monday’s 30-10 loss, Judge simply said “I’m not going to go into that right now,” when asked about Garrett’s job security.

Garrett, who was in his second season with New York after being fired by the Cowboys as their head coach, never saw his offense score 30 points or more in his 26 games as offensive coordinator. The team managed just one touchdown on Monday night, the result of a drive that began on Tampa Bay’s 5-yard line thanks to a turnover.

The Giants managed just over 200 total yards all night and were shut out in the second half.

Senior offensive assistant Freddie Kitchens is expected to take over play calling duties for the rest of the season, according to SNY.

So far this season, the Giants have scored the third fewest total touchdowns in the league, have the second fewest passing plays of 20 yards or more, and are in the bottom 10 in points and points per game.
