Browns CB Greg Newsome II, new agent deny report of trade request

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Cleveland Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II re-hired Rosenhaus Sports to represent him Tuesday.

Shortly after that announcement, both parties denied a report that Newsome was seeking a trade from the Browns.

“Ok y’all sit back a minute and lets think about this together. I just launched a softball game in Cleveland, [with a crying laughing emoji] I'll just leave it there,” Newsome quote tweeted in response to the report while referencing a celebrity softball game he will host this summer at Classic Park in Eastlake.

Rosenhaus also denied the trade request to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Greg is happy to be with the Browns,” Rosenhaus told Schefter. “Everything was very positive and Greg is happy with his role and playing for new DC Jim Schwartz.”

The Browns offseason program begins next Monday and Newsome, who indicated a few times his frustration with his role last season while at the same time expressed his willingness to do what was asked of him, is expected to attend.

Browns executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry is no stranger to dealing with frustrated players.

Berry refused to trade Kareem Hunt last year after the running back sat out team drills for a day following his request. Tight end David Njoku also requested a trade but ended up signing a four-year, $54.75 million contract extension.

Newsome is entering the third year of his rookie contract.

Rosenhaus Sports represented Newsome after he changed agents following the 2021 NFL Draft that saw him selected by the Browns 26th overall before he changed representation again.
