Jadeveon Clowney's second visit with Browns rescheduled for Wednesday

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Free agent pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney's second visit to the Browns has been delayed until mid-week.

Clowney was originally expected to fly into Cleveland Sunday night and take a physical Monday as talks between the two sides continue, but that has been pushed to Tuesday night and Wednesday according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Josina Anderson first reported Clowney's scheduled second visit to Cleveland Sunday night.

Clowney, who entertained an offer from the Browns last season before ultimately signing a one-year, $13 million deal with Tennessee, visited on March 24 but left town without signing or agreeing to terms.

Should Clowney come back a second time, it probably wouldn’t be for another guided tour of the facilities and an agreement would likely be in the offing pending the outcome of a physical.

The addition of Clowney would give the Browns a pair of former No. 1 overall picks to anchor the edge of their defensive line. Last summer the Browns signed defensive end Myles Garrett to a $125 million extension.

Clowney, who was selected No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by Houston, suffered a torn meniscus that ended his 2020 season and limited him to eight games with the Titans.

Tennessee elected not to re-sign Clowney and instead spent big money on former Steelers edge rusher Bud Dupree this offseason, giving him a five-year, $82.5 million contract.

Over his seven-year career, Clowney has 74 starts under his belt that has seen him total 32.0 sacks, 255 tackles, 75 for loss and 86 QB hits, but he’s only had three sacks in his last two seasons.

According to figures from the NFLPA, The Browns have $14,552,898 in current cap room. Subtract $7-8 million for the NFL Draft pool & they really have between $6-7 million to play with which would allow them to sign Clowney. EVP/GM Andrew Berry can create additional room if needed by restructuring contracts.

The Browns signed defensive end Takkarist McKinley to a one-year, $4.25 million contract last month.
