CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Jadeveon Clowney has been sacked by the Browns days after he ripped the team in an interview.
Clowney was downgraded to out Saturday for the season finale in Pittsburgh.
Clowney was sent home from practice Friday by head coach Kevin Stefanski following his comments to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com and the Plain Dealer in which he said there was a 95% chance he would not return to the Browns while criticizing the coaching staff and bemoaning Myles Garrett being given favorable matchups in games.
Clowney claimed the team was more concerned with getting Garrett into the Hall of Fame than winning.
Clowney’s frustrations boiled over in Baltimore on October 23, a 23-20 loss to the Ravens, when he was asked to switch sides on the defensive line.
Clowney, who was listed on the injury report during the week leading up to the game with an ankle injury, used the injury to only play on third downs in the game according to defensive line coach Chris Kiffin.
Clowney missed four games due to an ankle injury and a concussion this season. He ends the campaign with two sacks, four quarterbacks hits, four tackles for loss, three batted passes, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
In two seasons in Cleveland, Clowney started 24 of 26 games he appeared in where he tallied 11.0 sacks, 23 QB hits, 15 tackles for loss, five batted passes, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
Clowney is the fourth defensive player to be disciplined by the team this season.
Safety Grant Delpit was benched for one play denying him a start, Perrion Winfrey was sent home for a week and inactive and Myles Garrett was benched for a defensive series.
Clowney will be a free agent in March after signing a second one-year contract in 2022.
