Jarvis Landry charity softball game returns to Classic Park in June

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Jarvis Landry’s charity softball game will return in June to Classic Park in Eastlake.

The Browns’ receiver is teaming up with Cleveland native and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce for the ‘Jarvis Landry Celebrity Softball Game’ on June 12 at 2 p.m.

“You can anticipate a lot of familiar faces from Cleveland,” Landry said via Zoom to promote the game.

While Landry plans to roll out participants in the coming days and weeks he did confirm that Browns teammates David Njoku, Kareem Hunt, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Denzel Ward, Jedrick Wills and Mack Wilson will participate along with Cavs guard Darius Garland.

Landry will lead one team and Kelce the other, renewing what has now become a friendly rivalry with the Browns and Chiefs expected to compete for the AFC this coming season after meeting in the divisional round of the playoffs in January that saw Kelce and Kansas City prevail.

“It’s bittersweet,” Landry said. “They got the best of us in the playoff game and obviously Travis is a great competitor, but also he’s a Cleveland legend. I’ve been hoping this whole time as the teams have been unfolding that he doesn’t take all the Cleveland guys from me because that’s the whole makeup of my team.

“I’m excited that he’s back.”

Like 2019, the event will also feature a home run derby and provide a family friendly atmosphere for fans as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides and a return to normalcy takes root.

“We had a hell of a season with the Cleveland Browns, but I know it definitely was a trying time for a lot of people around the world and in Cleveland, Ohio,” Landry said. “To have an opportunity to get fans back and to the stadium and this event, around a lot of their favorite players, a lot of guys that grew up in the area, it’s something that is going to be special.”

Browns legend Bernie Kosar will also return to offer his support.

“Bernie is phenomenal,” Landry said. “Since the day that I stepped foot into Cleveland, his support – whether it was on the field, off the field – has been second to none.

“I’m happy to have him involved with this.”
