CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns have tried to pry Jerry Jeudy away from Denver for nearly two years.
On Saturday, they were able to finally pull off a trade and it became official on Wednesday.
The Browns acquired Jeudy from the Broncos for a fifth and sixth round pick – Nos. 135 and 202 overall.
“Just when I stepped in the building, just the energy and excitement that I received when I got there that made me feel welcomed,” Jeudy said. “I feel like a fresh start, it's going to be exciting just to be able to be somewhere new, especially having all the great guys on the team. So it is just going to make things a lot more easier for me and just better.”
Criticized for a lack of maturity and production, Jeudy acknowledged the four rocky years in Denver with the Broncos after being selected 15th overall in 2020, but he’s focused on Cleveland.
“I have high expectations for myself,” Jeudy said. “The past few years wasn't exactly what I want to be because [of] different circumstances and stuff like that, but I'm here, I'm where my feet are at now and I'm a Brown and I'm just ready to be the best version of myself here than I ever was before.”
Jeudy caught 54 passes for 758 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games last season for Denver and he has tallied 211 receptions for 3,053 yards and 11 touchdowns in 57 games over four seasons.
With the Browns, Jeudy teams with Amari Cooper, who is coming off his fifth Pro Bowl season that saw him lead the team with 1,250 yards and five touchdowns, and Elijah Moore.
“I actually started watching Amari when I was a freshman in high school because Alabama was recruiting,” Jeudy said.
“I'm excited to play with Coop. Like I said, I've been watching him for a long time, so me watching him and actually studying him made me become a better player.”
In addition to playing alongside Cooper, the prospect of catching passes from Deshaun Watson also appeals to Jeudy.
“Always having a consistent quarterback, a great quarterback like Deshaun Watson that knows where to get the ball on time, put in the right placement, having a quarterback like that, it is always going to be good for the receivers,” Jeudy said.
As for his role within the offense, Jeudy isn’t picky, and he believes his versatility will make all three of them lethal threats.
“I think I'm a guy that could play all three positions, all four positions on the field – the Y, the F, the Z, the X, and I feel I'm guy that just can make plays after the catch and just bring YAC and big play making ability to the team,” Jeudy said. “And I feel like Cooper and Elijah do the same thing too because I've been watching those guys for a long time too… So it just going to be exciting just to be able to have three receivers that all could do the same thing right after the catch create separation. So it's going to be exciting.”
Jeudy, 24, is going to be playing on the fifth-year option on his rookie contract worth just under $13 million but he’d love to be considered for an extension.
“I want to be somewhere that wants me to be there and I want to be home,” Jeudy said. “I don't want to be moving around too much and all that. So we’re going see what happens.”
