Jim Donovan steps away from Browns Radio Booth to focus on health

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Jim Donovan, the radio voice of the Cleveland Browns, announced that he will take a medican leave of absence from the Cleveland Browns Radio Network following the Browns 24-3 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.

Donovan, who began calling Browns games for the team when it returned to the NFL in 1999, announced in late May that he had suffered a relapse of leukemia after being in remission.

“I am going to have to step away to continue treatment of this relapse of leukemia that I have had,” Donovan said. “And I will be away for a while… I promise I’ll be a listener, and I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

Donovan previously revealed in May that he has been receiving intravenous and oral chemotherapy for the last 18 months. He underwent a bone marrow transplant nearly 11 ½ years ago.

Chris Rose will take over as the play-by-play voice during Donovan's absence.

“You’ll be back and you’ll be better than ever,” Browns senior broadcaster and radio analyst Nathan Zegura said. “I was such a treat to have you here today, especially for a game like this Jim. And we’re all thinking of you. Everybody in the city loves you. Every Browns fan around the world loves you and we can’t wait for you to be back in the booth.”
