CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – KhaDarel Hodge got caught in a numbers game Tuesday morning.
Too many receivers, not enough roster spots.
Hodge was informed of his impending release, but he might not be gone for long.
The Browns hope to bring back Hodge, who was a restricted free agent this offseason, back to the practice squad Wednesday if he isn’t picked up and he would be a roster move away from being back on the 53.
Hodge was also scheduled to make $2.13 million and if they get him through waivers and re-sign him they'd be saving nearly $1.2 million in salary.
Andy Janovich will be the fullback after Johnny Stanton IV was released as well Tuesday.
As the cuts come out, which have to be completed by 4 p.m. Tuesday, the initial 53 is starting to come into focus.
Right now it appears the Browns will go with five receivers and four running backs with rookie Demetric Felton flexing between the two spots.
The moves to date:
Cut: FB Johnny Stanton; DEs Porter Gustin, Curtis Weaver and Cameron Malveaux; LBs Tegray Scales, Willie Harvey and Elijah Lee; Ss Sheldrick Redwine and Jovante Moffatt; DTs Marvin Wilson and Sheldon Day; CBs Brian Allen and Emmanuel Rugamba; QB Kyle Lauletta; WRs JoJo Natson and KhaDarel Hodge; TEs Jordan Franks and Kyle Markway; RB John Kelly; FB Johnny Stanton IV
To IR: OL Greg Senat
To reserve suspended: WR Damion Davis (2 weeks)
