CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – LeBron James might be playing for the Lakers, but he still has love for Cleveland.
Namely the Browns.
James joined Peyton and Eli Manning on their Monday Night Football broadcast on ESPN2 of the Eagles and Cowboys where he was asked a variety of questions, including which NFL team he is rooting for.
“I’m a Browns fan,” James said. “I did grow up a Cowboys fan, but I’m down with the Browns and I want them to win. And they got a really good team this year and I’m looking forward to it.”
The Browns are off to a 2-1 start following a dominating 26-6 win over the Bears after finishing 11-5 and advancing in the playoffs last season.
James’ affinity for the Browns grew in recent years while with the Cavaliers. He would often talk about the team, it’s uniforms and what it was going to take for them to turn it around.
James also revealed on the broadcast that during the NBA lockout Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll offered him a contract to play in the NFL.
When the subject of Tom Brady returning to New England to face the Patriots this weekend, James reflected on his first game in Cleveland after joining the Miami Heat and how he was unable to sleep leading up to it.
James helped lead the Cavaliers to five NBA Finals appearances and the 2016 NBA championship in two stints in Cleveland after being drafted by the franchise No. 1 overall out of Akron St. Vincent St. Mary High School in Akron, Ohio.
