Browns place Marquise Goodwin on non-football illness with blood clots, 3 others on non-football injury list

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns placed veteran receiver Marquise Goodwin on the non-football illness list and three other players on the non-football injury list Friday.

Cleveland signed Godwin as a free agent from Seattle this offseason. He counts against the active list per league rules.

Goodwin began experiencing discomfort in his legs and slight shortness of breath during organized team activities in the spring. Blood clots were found in his legs and lungs following an examination.

“It was really alarming at first because I’ve experienced injury throughout my career, but it’s never been anything like this that could turn into something detrimental if it's not taken care of,” Goodwin said. “It was frightening at first, but now I’m at ease with it. I’ve prayed and just given it over to God. It’s out of my control, and the only thing I can control is my effort and attitude and how I approach each day moving forward.”

While there is no timetable set for his return, Goodwin plans to be around the team during camp while sidelined.

“It’s one of those things that is totally out of my control, out of the doctor’s control and out of the trainer’s control,” Goodwin said. “It’s really an unfortunate deal we have to deal with, but we need to deal with it in the proper fashion. The Browns are doing everything in their power to support me through it by allowing me to be around the team, on the field and in meetings. I'm grateful for that, and hopefully this thing gets back under control and I can feel my body and what I need to feel so I can help this team make this run.”

Receivers Anthony Schwartz and Mike Woods along with guard Colby Gossett were put on the non-football injury list.

Schwartz has a hamstring injury, Woods and Achilles injury and Gossett a foot injury according to the team.

Veterans reported for training camp on Friday and the team will travel to The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia where they will hold a walkthrough Saturday afternoon before the first practice of camp Sunday morning.
