BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – It feels like the first four weeks of the season have been filled with nothing but bad news, especially on the injury front.
Help could be on the way and maybe things are turning a corner for the Browns on that front.
Here’s the top Brownie Bites from Friday.
Myles of improvement – Defensive end Myles Garrett’s feet still bother him, just not as much as a few weeks ago, which is good news for the Browns. “This week has been a really great week for me as far as recovering and managing a lot of this pain,” Garrett said. “This is probably the best I felt since last year today, so I'm really starting to feel like myself again and trending in the right direction. So we're going to continue to stay on what we got going now and hopefully a week or two or who knows when, but at least by mid-season I'm sure I'll start to really feel like myself.” Garrett is up to 4.0 sacks this season after registering two in last week’s loss at Las Vegas.
Njoku questionable – Tight end David Njoku practiced two of the three days this week, including Friday, but is listed as questionable. “I feel pretty good,” Njoku said. “I'm going to follow whatever Kevin tells me to do and go from there.” Njoku suffered a high ankle sprain in the season opener. “I just want to be out there for my team,” Njoku said. “I want to be out there giving them the energy that they require and then vice versa and yeah, hopefully I'm out there.”
Another to IR? – The Browns offensive tackle situation took a hit Friday when Stefanski revealed James Hudson III aggravated his shoulder injury but it is unclear if he will join defensive end Alex Wright on injured reserve. Wright is lost for the season, but Hudson could return. Corresponding roster moves are likely coming Saturday.
Pocic update – Center Ethan Pocic, who had to step out last weekend with an ankle injury, is expected to play Sunday. “Very tough player,” Stefanski said. “He tried to go even in that game after he was injured, but bounced back, did a nice job, rehabbing getting ready, so he's a leader for us. He does a great job organizing everything from that position.”
Watch continues – The Jedrick Wills Jr. and Jack Conklin watch is five weeks and going strong. Bothplayers are questionable and with Hudson now headed to IR, it’s imperative one, if not both, of them be available Sunday. “I think we have a decent idea that what you have to do when you're dealing with players that are coming back from any injury,” Stefanski said. You got to make sure that every day you're seeing how guys are feeling, how they respond to practice, those type of things. So we'll see how everybody does. That's really up and down the roster from an injury perspective.” It does sound like Conklin could return after a hamstring injury slowed his comeback a few weeks ago. “It's making sure that he's ready to go physically,” Stefanski said. “And another guy, I mean I've gotten to see him work out. I've gotten to see him try crazy to get back and practice, so he's certainly a guy that when he's ready we'll use him.”
