BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Jarvis Landry’s sprained MCL will have no bearing on the return timeline for Odell Beckham Jr. according to Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.

An MRI Monday confirmed Landry’s injury while Beckham continues to work his way back from ACL surgery last November.

“The Odell situation is really not dependent on the availability of anybody else,” Stefanski said Monday. “We will again continue to bring him along and see when he is ready to go.”

Beckham appeared ready to return Week 1 at Kansas City but following a pregame workout at Arrowhead Stadium, Beckham wasn’t ready to play and was inactive for the game.

Stefanski quickly ruled Beckham out for Sunday’s 31-21 win over the Texans last Wednesday and it remains to be seen if he’ll be available against the Bears.

“We will talk through those things, but I do not have any announcement as it relates to that,” Stefanski said.

Beckham indicated on Twitter that he may be ready to return this week while responding to a Tweet from Landry.

Answering the call – After Baker Mayfield suffered the left shoulder injury, Stefanski turned to the run game to take the heat off his QB and put the Texans away.

On the ensuing possession following Mayfield’s injury, Nick Chubb ripped off 43 yards, Kareen Hunt 13 more before Mayfield finished off the 75-yard drive with a 5-yard TD run to tie the game at 14. Chubb had 55 yards and a score in the second half and Hunt 19 more.

“We know what we are capable of doing running the football,” Hunt said Monday. “We just have to come out there and make it happen when the team needs us. Definitely, we needed a touchdown and a good drive. Coach Kevin does a great job of calling plays.”

The nominee – Running back Nick Chubb was nominated for the Fed Ex Ground Player of the Week award.

Chubb rushed for 95 yards on 11 carries and scored a touchdown on the ground for the eighth straight game.

Delpit’s debut – Safety Grant Delpit made quite the impression in his NFL debut Sunday by providing one of the few defensive highlights of the day.

In the fourth quarter, Delpit drilled Davis Mills, separating the Texans rookie quarterback from the football for his first career NFL sack.

“It was a great call by coach [Joe] Woods. Just came clean off of the edge. It opened right up,” Delpit said. “I should have gotten the ball myself. I did not know the ball popped out to be honest with you. I just tried to get a good clean hit on him. It was just a good play by the defense.”

Delpit ruptured his Achilles during training camp that cost the 2020 second round pick his rookie season. This year he suffered a hamstring injury in camp and aggravated it in the second practice back.

“It was definitely aggravating with the hamstring. The Achilles was what it was. That was a long process,” Delpit said. “Hopefully, we just stay healthy this season and continue on this track that we are on.”

Davis released – The Browns released receiver Davion Davis, who spent the first two weeks of the season on the reserve suspended list stemming from a 2019 violation of league conduct policies.

Davis had a strong training camp and preseason.

Practice squad moves – Cleveland signed tight end Miller Forristall and guard Tristen Hoge to the practice squad and released tackle Jordan Steckler from the practice squad.

Injury report – WR Jarvis Landry (knee), OT Chris Hubbard (triceps), LT Jedrick Wills Jr. (ankle), Baker Mayfield (left shoulder), WR Odell Beckham Jr. (knee)
