Browns DT Perrion Winfrey arrested, charged with misdemeanor assault in Texas

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey is free on $1,000 bond following an arrest Monday in Texas.

Harris County Texas court records show Winfrey was charged with one misdemeanor count of “assault-family member.”

Winfrey is accused of grabbing and pulling a woman, whom he “had a dating relationship with,” by the hand causing “bodily injury” according to court documents.

The narrative filed with the court described the alleged incident: “Defendant and Complainant were in a dating relationship. The(y) had an argument over a dog and keys to a rental car. The Defendant attempted to force the Complainant to leave with him and when she would not, he tried to force her to. Bystanders intervened and the Defendant stopped trying to force the Complainant to leave with him.

“The Complainant said that the Defendant has assaulted her before. On the day of the offense, the Defendant went to the residence of a friend of the Complainant and kicked the door in looking for the Complainant. The Defendant also put a tracking device on the Complainant’s vehicle and followed her before assaulting her.”

An emergency protection order was granted by the court and Winfrey was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation according to court documents.

The Browns, who drafted Winfrey 108th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, are aware of the situation and are gathering more information according to a team spokesperson.

Winfrey was sent home from practice during Week 2 last season and was inactive for that week for disciplinary reasons.
