Rashard Higgins: Baker Mayfield “more focused” this year

‘Hollywood’ is thrilled to be back with Browns, still feels pain of 0-16 season

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Through all the challenges the year has presented the Browns, receiver Rashard Higgins has seen a different Baker Mayfield in 2020.

With a third offensive system in as many years to learn, Mayfield has put in overtime to prepare for the upcoming season.

“He’s more focused,” Higgins said Wednesday during a Zoom video conference with reporters. “I feel like he knows what he has to do. He has a goal in his mind and I really believe he’s set out to do it.

“I feel like there’s a way better version that he’s showing us that y’all haven’t seen yet.”

Higgins, selected by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2016 draft, re-signed in the offseason after his rookie deal expired. It was a one-year deal worth less than a million.

He had options but wanted to come back to Cleveland.

“It means the world,” Higgins said. “I’ve been here through 0-16, 1-15 and to see everything turn around and us start winning and the things we were promised, I want to be here. I want to be part of that.

“I love everything about Cleveland. This is where I was drafted. This is where I want to be. There’s no place like Cleveland.”

Higgins acknowledged the pain of that winless season in 2017 sticks with him and motivates him to this day.

“It’s been a long five years,” Higgins said. “We want to just win. At the end of the day, we just want to win. If you were a part of that 0-16 team, that’s the only thing in mind that you want; just want to win.”

He believes Mayfield is ready to help them do just that.
