CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – It was expected but will be official on Wednesday.

Cornerback Terrance Mitchell is a former Brown.

The veteran confirmed on Instagram after receiving well wishes that he is joining the Houston Texans.

Browns executive vice president of football operations and general manager Andrew Berry dropped hints earlier this month that they would likely not retain the 28-year-old.

“We would like to bring all of our guys back if we could,” Berry said on March 3. “Terrance was a big part of what we did this past year. Again, we are going to stay in communication with him and his reps as we typically do. I will not go into the details of those discussions, but he was obviously a very productive player for us this past year.”

Mitchell plans to sign for two years and $7.5 million according to NFL Network.

Browns linebacker Mack Wilson posted on his Instagram account well wishes following Mitchell’s departure after three seasons in Cleveland.

“Go be great my brother,” Wilson wrote. “If anybody knows you they know your vibe is unmatched. Appreciate you for all the knowledge Vet.
#Luv.”

Mitchell started 27 of the 39 games he played in for the Browns where he totaled two interceptions, 22 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

This past season Mitchell was forced into a starting role following the loss of Greedy Williams in training camp due to a shoulder injury that saw Williams deal with nerve problems with the shoulder.

On Monday, Berry and the Browns agreed to a three-year deal with safety John Johnson and Tuesday afternoon a one-year deal with edge rusher Takk McKinley.

Berry will need to replace Mitchell, and likely the Browns' top nickelback Kevin Johnson, who is also a free agent as part of the defensive makeover this offseason.
