CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns didn’t sign Rams free agent cornerback Troy Hill just to be a role player.

It was a point Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski drove home Monday in the team’s official announcement that they officially signed the Youngstown, Ohio native after he agreed to terms last week.

“Troy fits in great,” Stefanski said. “He was a very productive player out there in Los Angeles. Played inside and outside, he makes plays on the ball, he is part of the front, he is good in coverage, so really looking forward to having him play a big role in this defense.”

Hill was one of just two defensive players that received a multi-year contract – four years and $24 million – from the Browns in free agency so far joining another former Ram, John Johnson III, who got a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old led the NFL with three returns for touchdowns – two pick-sixes and a fumble recovery for a score – while playing 95% of defensive snaps for the top-ranked defense overall and against the pass in Los Angeles.

Over six seasons, Hill has started 39 of the 73 games he’s appeared in, including 27 the last two years combined, where he has totaled 29 passes defensed, seven interceptions, 218 combined tackles, four tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

Hill should add more big play ability to a secondary that includes Johnson, Denzel Ward and hopefully a healthy Greedy Williams.
