BEREA, OH - With the Browns almost ready to report to training camp, two of the biggest question marks looming over the CrossCountry Mortgage Campus in Berea are about the health of QB Deshaun Watson and how will the combined offense of reigning coach of the year Kevin Stefanski and new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey look in 2024.
Watson, with the Deshaun Watson Foundation hosting the second annual 7-on-7 tournament for over 300 local high school athletes in Berea, OH, spoke to reporters about both at the tournament, starting with his health.
“I’m in a great state,” Watson told reporters at the tournament. “Yeah, [I’m working] every day. The work comes first so I’m always working to get better and improve my skill set and myself.”
The Browns quarterback also spoke about the new look offense with Dorsey and Stefanski and had some high praise for it ahead of training camp.
“It’s beautiful,” Watson said of the offensive playbook with Stefanski and Dorsey. “It’s fun [and] exciting. [Ken Dorsey] and Kevin [Stefanski] are doing a heck of a job of putting a nice playbook together for all of us to go out and execute at a high level and be one of the top teams in the NFL. That’s the plan and we’re going to just continue to build upon it.”
He also consulted his longtime friend and former NFL MVP Cam Newton, who had Dorsey as a quarterbacks coach in Carolina from 2013-2017 including his MVP season in 2015, about what it’s like to play with Dorsey and he had nothing but positives to say about the coach.
“He liked Ken!” Watson said about Newton’s thoughts on Dorsey. “Ken [Dorsey] is going to let you be yourself. He wants to score. He wants to put up a lot of points, but he’s going to allow you to be you.”
Cleveland Browns rookies report to training camp on July 22nd and veterans report on July 23rd to prepare for the 2024 season.
