CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns sit on the doorstep of the NFL playoffs for the second time in four years.
Tuesday afternoon the NFL announced eight different clinch scenarios for the Browns this weekend.
First, in every scenario the Browns MUST beat the Houston Texans Sunday, then…
1. Cincinnati loss + Denver loss or tie + Buffalo loss + Miami win or tie + Indianapolis loss or tie OR
2. Pittsburgh loss or tie + Buffalo loss + Miami win or tie + Denver loss or tie OR
3. Pittsburgh loss or tie + Buffalo loss + Miami win or tie + Jacksonville loss + Indianapolis win OR
4. Pittsburgh loss or tie + Denver loss or tie + Jacksonville loss + Indianapolis win OR
5. Pittsburgh loss or tie + Buffalo loss + Kansas City win + Indianapolis win + Jacksonville loss OR
6. Pittsburgh loss or tie + Denver loss or tie + Miami win or tie + Indianapolis loss OR
7. Pittsburgh loss or tie + Denver loss or tie + Miami win or tie + Jacksonville loss OR
8. Cincinnati-Pittsburgh tie + Buffalo loss + Indianapolis win + Jacksonville loss
The Bengals play the Steelers in Pittsburgh Saturday at 4:30. The Bills are in L.A. to face the Chargers Saturday at 8 p.m. The Colts play the Falcons in Atlanta Sunday at 1. The Jaguars are in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers Sunday at 4:05. The Broncos host the Patriots Sunday night at 8:15 and the Chiefs host the Raiders Monday at 1 p.m.
The 9-5 Browns have withstood an avalanche of season-ending injuries this season to key contributors including starting right tackle Jack Conklin, All Pro running back Nick Chubb, quarterback Deshaun Watson, safety Grant Delpit, left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. and rookie offensive tackle Dawand Jones. A total of 13 players are currently on injured reserve.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski is the first coach since Marty Schottenheimer (1986-1989) to tally multiple winning seasons for the franchise.
Cleveland last made the playoffs in 2020 with Stefanski on the sidelines following an 11-5 regular season. The Browns beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Wild Card weekend before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.
