Cavs acquire forward Max Strus, sign forward Georges Niang and guard Ty Jerome

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Cavaliers announced three more acquisitions Thursday afternoon.

First, the Cavs acquired forward Max Strus in a sign and trade with the Miami Heat, which also included the San Antonio Spurs, as well as signed free agent forward Georges Niang and guard Ty Jerome.

The Cavs sent a 2026 second round pick (via Los Angeles Lakers) to Miami, and traded forwards Cedi Osman and Lamar Stevens as well as Cleveland’s own 2030 second round pick to San Antonio as part of the trade to land Struss.

Strus, who averaged a career-high 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 steals over 80 regular season games for the Heat, receives a four-year contract worth a reported $63 million.

Strus is being counted on to help elevate Cleveland’s perimeter shooting after hitting 197 three-pointers last season for the Heat, which ranked 21st leaguewide. The 27-year-old hit multiple threes in 55 games this past season and made at least five from beyond the arc in 10 games.

Strus started all 23 playoff games for the Eastern Conference champions where he averaged 9.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in just over 28 minutes per game.

Over his four-year NBA career, Strus has appeared in 189 regular season games (49 starts) with Miami and Chicago, holding averages of 10.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 23.1 minutes. He is also shooting .371 from three-point range and .820 from the foul line.

Niang, who received a three-year deal worth a reported $26 million, has 383 games under his belt with Philadelphia, Utah and Indiana where he has averaged 6.5 points and 2.1 rebounds in 15.6 minutes while shooting .403 from three-point range.

The 50th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the 76ers has appeared in 46 playoff games where he averaged 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 14.2 minutes while shooting a .423 from the field.

Jermome, who signed a two-year deal worth a reported $4.6 million, has played in 157 games over four seasons with Phoenix, Oklahoma City and Golden State.

The former first round pick averages 6.9 points and 3.0 assists per game and has scored in double figures 52 times in his career, as well as six occasions with 20 or more points.

Earlier in the day the team announced they re-signed reserve guard Caris LeVert, who received a reported two-year, $32 million contract.
