Cavaliers announce agreement with Darius Garland on five-year, $193 million extension

The Cavaliers made their largest signing in franchise history official on Saturday, announcing that they'd come to terms with Darius Garland on a five-year, $193 million contract extension:

“Darius has proven to be a tremendous basketball player and someone who embodies everything a franchise would want in a young player,” said Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman. “We’ve quickly seen Darius grow into an NBA All-Star and an integral core piece in our pursuit of sustainable success. Both on and off the court, Darius has demonstrated a strong commitment to this organization and the community. We look forward to our future and what we can accomplish here in Cleveland.”

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the max extension could be worth up to $231 million. On Friday, the team made the deals with Ricky Rubio, Robin Lopez, and Raul Neto official as well.

Since being drafted 5th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, Garland has gone on to start in 177 of the 181 games he's played. During that stretch, the 22 year old has averaged, per 100 possessions, over 25 points, 9 assists, and a steal.

He's had an offensive rating over 100 in two of the last three years, and in 2021-2022, he set career highs in points per game, assists per game, and true shooting percentage.
