CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Cavaliers rookie forward Evan Mobley will not play Wednesday night against Dallas due to a sprained left ankle.
He will also not travel with the team to Atlanta or New York the team said Wednesday.
Mobley, the presumed favorite to win Rookie of the Year, suffered the injury during the second quarter of Monday night’s 107-101 win over the Magic.
He underwent an MRI Tuesday.
Cleveland’s sensational rookie went down with 5:11 remaining in the first half after he landed on Magic forward Franz Wagner while contesting a shot.
“He rolled it pretty good,” forward Kevin Love said after the game.
Mobley, who was a point shy of hitting 1,000 in his rookie season, limped to the locker room with trainer Steve Spiro moments later.
The No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft is averaging 14.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.6 blocks and just under a steal per game this season for Cleveland.
The Cavs, 42-33, are seventh in the Eastern Conference and are a full game behind Toronto for the sixth spot and guaranteed playoff berth.
If the postseason were to begin Tuesday, the Cavs would face Brooklyn in the Play-In Tournament.
