Cavs have 11.5% chance to win 2021 NBA Draft Lottery following 22-50 finish

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Another Cavs season hoping for a fortuitus bounce of the ping pong balls concluded Sunday in Brooklyn with a 14-point loss to the Nets.

Now the attention turns to the NBA Draft Lottery.


After finishing 22-50, the Cavs tied for the fourth-worst record with Oklahoma City behind 17-55 Houston, 20-52 Detroit as well as 21-51 Orlando.

The Rockets, Pistons and Magic have the best odds to win the No. 1 pick in the draft at 14%. The three teams have 13.2% odds to get the No.
2 selection and 12.7% odds for the third pick.

The Cavs and Thunder have an 11.5% chance to win the top pick, 11.4% for the second and 11.2% to get the third pick in the draft. Should the lottery fall in order with the final standings, Cleveland would pick fourth or fifth in the NBA Draft.

The Cavs and Thunder will have a coin flip to determine slotting as the No. 4 and 5 team. The lowest the winner of the flip could pick is eighth and for the loser is ninth.

The Cavaliers won the NBA Lottery in 2003 (LeBron James), 2011 (via the LA Clippers Kyrie Irving), 2013 (Anthony Bennett) and 2014 (Andrew Wiggins).

Cleveland has a 45.1% chance to land a top-4 pick, but they have fallen out of the top four spots in each of the past three drafts.

The 2021 NBA Draft Lottery will take place June 22 and the Draft on July 29.
