Collin Sexton says Cavs in “must win” game against Hawks Tuesday night

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – There is a sense of urgency seemingly building within the Cavaliers.

Riding a 10-game losing streak, guard Collin Sexton, an All-Star hopeful, minced few words during shootaround Tuesday morning.

“It’s a must win for us,” Sexton said. “I feel like tonight, going into this one, we have to win. It’s one we really need to get.”

During the losing streak the Cavs are allowing 124.2 points per game, have lost by an average of 20.9 points per game and have fell by single digits just once. Their next closest loss is 16 points.

During that stretch Cleveland has played just one team below .500 while also playing without their four key players – Kevin Love (calf strain), Andre Drummond (trade block), Larry Nance Jr. (broken left hand) and Matthew Dellavedova (concussion/appendectomy).

Despite the challenges, Sexton feels they’ve not lived up to their potential.

“I would say right now, we have,” Sexton said. “There’s no excuses, at all for the amount of wins that we have. We’re definitely going to turn it around, figure it out and get back up there.

“It takes one game at a time and we can’t look forward at games ahead. We have to focus on the game right now.”

Earlier this season the Cavs beat the Hawks, 96-91 in which they limited Atlanta to .412 from the field and forced 22 turnovers.

As for his All-Star prospects when reserves are revealed Tuesday evening Sexton said, “We’ll see…I’d rather take a win. Everything else will play itself out.”
