The Cleveland Cavaliers are nearing a trade guard Rajon Rondo from the Los Angeles Lakers, according to reports.
No official announcement of a deal has been made by the Cavaliers at this time.
Rondo, a former 4-time All-Star with the Boston Celtics, is in his 16th NBA season and midway through his first season with the Lakers. The 35-year-old guard is averaging 3.1 points and 2.7 assists per contest through 18 games played for L.A. this season.
The deal comes as the Cavs recently lost starting guard Ricky Rubio to an ACL tear suffered in Cleveland's 108-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans last Wednesday night. The team is also still without Darius Garland, who remains on the team's reserve/COVID-19 list.
The Cavs (20-15), fresh off a Friday night loss to the Washington Wizards, are scheduled to play the Atlanta Hawks (15-19) in a New Year's Eve matchup at 7:30 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.
