Report: Matthew Dellavedova facing possible career-threatening concussion

The 30-year-old has been inactive all season with the concussion

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) - One of the two remaining Cleveland Cavaliers from the 2016 championship team is reportedly fighting to save his career.

Cavs guard Matthew Dellavedova is still dealing with a concussion he sustained in Cleveland's preseason opener back on Dec. 12, and a report from The Athletic's Joe Vardon and Kelsey Russo says Delly is still experiencing symptoms that have kept the 30-year-old Aussie from returning to workouts in any capacity.

The Athletic report indicated retirement could be in serious discussion, if not likelihood, for Dellavedova:

Those sources indicated that retirement was on the table, if not likely, for Dellavedova, though a source close to him said there “isn’t anything conclusive” about his playing future, he’s under no deadline or pressure to formally quit, and doesn’t want to stop playing yet.

Known for his physical play, Dellavedova sustained a concussion late in the 2018-19 season, costing him 16 games. However, Dellavedova returned to play for Australia in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, and is currently on his home country's roster for the upcoming Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Dellavedova returned to the Cavs for this season on a one-year, $2.1 million deal. Coming into the NBA in 2013 from St. Mary's College, he has spent all but two and a half seasons of his eight-year career in Cleveland, with the Milwaukee Bucks from 2017 to 2019.
