When the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted USC big man Evan Mobley in July, there were some who thought he could have the most potential of the entire draft.
Put newest Cleveland Cavalier Rajon Rondo among those who believe in the young big man’s talent.
“He might be the most talented rookie I’ve ever played with, being able to control so many things on the court, even without scoring the basketball,” Rondo said after practice
With Rondo being around so many talented players throughout his career, the high praise is not one that is easily dished out from the playmaker.
While his impact has been felt throughout the season on the defensive end, Mobley has averaged 16.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in the month of January so far, the highest-scoring month of his rookie season.
When asked earlier this season, Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said that he was more impressed by Mobley’s ability to process information and adjust in-game, something that takes some weeks of practice and workshopping to implement.
The Cavaliers star rookie already won rookie of the month in October-November, but looks to be well on his way to adding a lot more hardware over his promising, bright future.
Mobley, 20, is averaging 16.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in January
