The Astros placed Yordan Alvarez on the 10-day injured list with right oblique discomfort, the team announced on Friday afternoon.
Alvarez left Thursday's 3-2 loss in Toronto after his first at bat and the Astros say he will return to Houston for further evaluation while the team begins a three-game series in Cleveland on Friday night.
The 25-year old has carried the Astros offense this season with a .272/.384/.579 slash line. He leads MLB with 55 RBI and his 17 home runs have him in a tie for fourth.
