Guardians place Franmil Reyes on IL, designate Yu Chang for assignment

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Guardians placed outfielder Franmil Reyes on the 10-day injured list and designated infielder Yu Chang for assignment in a series of roster moves announced Thursday.

Reyes, who had been hitting .195 with three home runs and 12 RBI, has been sidelined due to tightness in his right hamstring according to the team. The move is retroactive to May 25.

Chang was in his fourth year with Cleveland and had appeared in four games this season and had not collected a hit in 10 at-bats with seven strikeouts.

In corresponding moves, the Guardians selected the contract of outfielder Oscar González and recalled outfielder Richie Palacios and left-handed pitcher Konnor Pilkington from AAA Columbus.

González will make his major league debut after hitting .282 with 10 extra base hits including 9 home runs and 33 RBI in 41 games. He currently ranks sixth in the International League in RBI and hits and is seventh in total bases with 88.

Pilkington will start Thursday night in Detroit as he returns for a fourth time after opening the season on the big-league roster. In four games – one start with Cleveland, he is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 8 2/3 innings with four walks and 11 strikeouts while posting a 5.02 ERA in four starts for the Clippers. In his first start May 8 against Toronto, he allowed two runs on three hits with six strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Palacios begins his third stint with the Guardians in 2022 after debuting in Anaheim on April 25. So far in 12 games over his first two stints, he is 10-for-37 (.270) with a double and 2 RBI. He was hitting .259 for Columbus with 10 extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs and 21 RBI in 20 games.
