CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Guardians announced that starting pitcher Gavin Williams experienced a recurrence of elbow soreness after his most recent outing. He will receive an injection and be shut down for seven days before he resumes his throwing program.
Williams, 24, has yet to make his 2024 debut, dealing with elbow soreness that limited him to just two starts in spring training, only allowing one run in those starts with nine strikeouts and a walk. The outing was part of his ramp up to prepare him for the season following the injury.
The 23rd selection in the 2021 MLB Draft had a stellar rookie campaign, after being called up on June 21, 2023. He made 16 starts in his rookie season, compiling a 3-5 record with a 3.29 ERA. He also struck out 81 batters and walked just 37 batters.
