For the second consecutive season, a pair of Cleveland Guardians have each earned hardware for their fielding efforts.
Andrés Giménez was named the 2023 American League Gold Glove Award winner at second base on Sunday night, while left fielder Steven Kwan earned his second straight award.
The pair were one of four Guardians players to win Gold Gloves last season, with outfielder Myles Straw and pitcher Shane Bieber also among the honorees. Straw also received a nomination for this year’s award as a center fielder.
Giménez, 25, is the second Cleveland player to win multiple Gold Glove Awards at second base, after Roberto Alomar won three straight from 1999-2001.
Giménez led AL second basemen with 18 outs above average and 23 defensive runs saved. He finished ahead of Texas’s Marcus Semien and Houston’s Mauricio Dubón.
Kwan, 26, joins Kenny Lofton (1993-96) and Grady Sizemore (2007-08) as the only Cleveland outfielders to win multiple Gold Gloves.
Kwan, who finished ahead of finalists Austin Hayes (Baltimore) and Daulton Varsho (Toronto), led all AL left fielders in defensive runs saved (16) and outs above average (nine).
Both Giménez and Kwan will be eligible for the Platinum Glove Award, which will be announced on Friday, Nov. 10, at the Rawlings Gold Glove Award Ceremony in New York City.
