Guardians minority owner David Blitzer part of Harris ownership group that has agreed to buy the Washington Commanders

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Cleveland Guardians minority owner David Blitzer is part of a group that reached an agreement to purchase the Washington Commanders from Daniel and Tanya Snyder.

Friday afternoon the Commanders announced that the Snyders have agreed to sell the team to a group led by Josh Harris and includes Blitzer, Earvin Magic Johnson and Mitch Rales.


The price tag for the fledgling NFL franchise is reportedly a record $6.05 billion.

The purchase agreement is pending approval from the league's finance committee and the other 31 NFL owners.

Blitzer, who is is the co-founder and co-managing general partner of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, purchased a 25 percent stake in the Guardians in 2022 and the agreement includes a provision where Blitzer could buy a controlling stake in the team by 2028..

By adding a stake in the Commanders to his portfolio, Blitzer will own a stake in five major sports leagues with Harris. He already is the managing partner for the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils and is the majority owner of Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake as well as other international football clubs.

The Guardians extended their lease at Progressive Field in 2022 for 15 more years and are about to embark on a $435 million ballpark renovation that is scheduled to be completed by opening day 2025.
