CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Guardians are promoting outfielder Will Benson from Triple-A Columbus ahead of their Monday night matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The club confirmed the promotion of the left-handed hitting Benson, who was the 14th overall selection of the 2016 MLB Draft. Cleveland selected Benson out of The Westminster School (Atlanta) and had a number of his fellow draft class mates - such as Shane Bieber, Nolan Jones, Zach Plesac, and Aaron Civale - reach the major league roster before their first selection.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the Guardians are optioning Alex Call and moving Anthony Gose to the 60-day injured list to make room for Benson on the active roster.

Benson, 24, has spent the entire season with the Clippers where he leads the International League in OPS (.948), on-base percentage (.426), and walks (75). At the time of his promotion, he is hitting a career-best .278 with 17 home runs and 45 runs batted in.

Benson will be the 10th player to make his major league debut with the Guardians this season when he steps on the field.

Ohtani retained by Angels

As Tuesday's trade deadline closes in on all 30 major league clubs, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported on Monday that the Los Angeles Angels would not be trading the two-way superstar.

Heyman reported the New York Yankees were among a handful of teams that made serious offers for Ohtani, along with the Chicago White Sox and the San Diego Padres.

The MLB trade deadline will pass this Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Trey Mancini dealt to Astros

The Baltimore Orioles are trading first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini to the Houston Astros, according to reports.

The reigning AL Comeback Player of the Year, Mancini has posted a .270 average in 92 games this season, along with 10 home runs in 41 RBIs.

Houston workshopped a three-team trade that involved Baltimore and the Tampa Bay Rays. The O's will acquire RHP Seth Johnson and Chayce McDermott, while Tampa Bay receives outfielder Jose Siri from the Astros.

Yankees acquire Montas, Trivino from A's

While the Yankees couldn't manage to land Ohtani, they reportedly landed a pair of trade acquisitions from the Oakland Athletics on Monday.

According to multiple sources, New York is trading for starting pitcher Frankie Montas and reliever Lou Trivino from Oakland in exchange for lefties JP Sears and Ken Waldichuk, right-hander Luis Medina, and second baseman Cooper Bowman.

Musgrove extended by, Hader traded to Padres

The Padres were active on Monday, signing starting pitcher Joe Musgrove to a 5-year, $100 million contract extension, according to multiple sources.

Musgrove is 8-4 with a 2.65 earned run average in 18 starts this season.

While San Diego maintained one of the arms in its rotation, it also added one to the bullpen. ESPN's Jeff Passan reports the Padres trading for All-Star closer Josh Hader from the Milwaukee Brewers.
