Guardians trade for Scott Barlow, sign Ramon Laureano to one-year deal

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Guardians traded for Scott Barlow of the San Diego Padres for Enyel De Los Santos on a Friday full of transactions for Cleveland.

Barlow, 30, joined the Padres at the trade deadline last season. He spent the previous five seasons pitching in the AL Central for the Kansas City Royals.

Barlow has had success against the AL Central in his career. He has a 2.81 ERA, 169 strikeouts, and 60 walks across 144 innings pitched against the division.

In his career, Barlow owns a 20-18 record with a 3.36 ERA. He made 63 appearances out of the bullpen in 2023 posting a 4.37 ERA with a 2-6 record.

Barlow has one year of arbitration remaining and is scheduled to be a free agent after the 2024 season.

Enyel De Los Santos was entering his first round of arbitration this offseason. He now joins the Padres after spending the last two seasons in Cleveland. De Los Santos had a 3.18 ERA in his stint with the Guardians.

Cleveland also signed Ramon Laureano to a one-year contract to avoid arbitration. Laureano was claimed off waivers by Cleveland on August 7th. In 41 games with the Guardians, he hit .243 with eight doubles, one triple, three homers, and 14 RBIs.

Following the Cal Quantrill trade on Friday afternoon to the Rockies, the Guardians 40-man roster is now full. All 34 remaining unsigned players were tendered contacts by Friday’s deadline.
