CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) - The Cleveland Guardians made a series of roster moves on Thursday, which included trading infielder Nolan Jones to the Colorado Rockies, along with right-hander Carlos Vargas to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Cleveland also acquired a pair of players (pitcher Ross Carver and infielder Juan Brito) via the trades, while adding four to their 40-man roster: left-handed pitchers Joey Cantillo and Tim Herrin, and infielders Angel Martinez and Brito.

The Guardians move on from Jones after the former second-round draft pick spent six years through their minor league system. The 24-year-old, who ranked in the top 100 of Baseball America's prospects lists from 2019 to 2021, made his major league debut this past July, and batted .244 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in through 28 major league games.

Jones was dealt in exchange for Brito, who was subsequently assigned to the Guardians' 40-man roster on Tuesday. The 21-year-old is coming off his third season at the prospects level, in which he batted .286 with 11 homers and 72 RBIs, while splitting time primarily between second base and shortstop.

As for Vargas, who signed with Cleveland as a 16-year old back in 2016, will head to Arizona after going 4-3 with a 3.67 ERA in 2022. Meanwhile, Carver, a 23-year-old right-hander who was a 20th round selection (588th overall) by Arizona in the 2021 MLB Draft, Carver went 4-10 with a 5.06 earned run average through 24 starts, although the lefty struck out 128 batters over 117.1 innings.

Along with Brillo, the Guardians also added pitchers Cantillo and Herrin to the roster. Cantillo, 22, posted a 1.92 ERA over 14 appearances (13 starts) for Double-A Akron, while Herrin, 26, went 1-4 with two saves in 46 games between Akron and Triple-A Columbus. Joining the two will be Martinez, 21, who batted a combined .278 with 23 doubles, 13 home runs, 44 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases over 101 games between High-A Lake County and Akron.

The Guardians also designated pitchers Kirk McCarty and Anthony Gose for assignment.
