The Cleveland Guardians have become the latest MLB team to reveal new threads for the 2024 season.
In a Monday joint announcement between the Guardians and Nike, the former revealed its new alternate uniforms as part of the 2024 MLB City Connect Series.
The Guardians, who are set to debut their uniforms during their Friday, May 17 home game versus Minnesota, will become the ninth major league team to join the City Connect Series for the 2024 campaign.
New additions to the Guardians uniform include a texture-patterned navy blue jersey with red and blue stripes; a sculptural art deco 'CLE' wordmark and number design on the jersey; a matching cap featuring the Guardians' primary 'Diamond C' logo; and socks that - along with other on-field gear - bear a new logo design similar to the city's 'Guardians of Traffic' pillars, located along the Hope Memorial Bridge.
Details for the Guardians' City Connect Series uniforms - designed to represent various attributes to the city of Cleveland - were unveiled on Monday:
- The Cleveland Guardians City Connect uniform is inspired by the Guardians of Traffic pillars on the Hope Memorial Bridge just outside of Progressive Field. The blue jersey’s textured pattern is influenced by the statues' Berea sandstone material.
- The sculptural art deco ‘CLE’ wordmark and number set are layered to look like they’ve been etched in stone, similar to the pylons that support each statue.
- The uniform’s red and blue color scheme is rooted in Cleveland's traditional team colors. Braiding down the sides of the jersey and pants features a design found on the statues while giving a nod to Cleveland team uniforms of the early 1990s. The hat features the club’s new ‘Diamond C’ while matching the colors found throughout the uniform.
The Guardians will debut their City Connect uniforms on Friday, May 17, against Minnesota, and again on Sunday, May 19. Going forward, the Guardians will wear their City Connect uniforms for every home Friday contest, and will rely on player discretion for any additional home games.
