CLEVELAND, OH - More reinforcements are on the way for the Guardians starting rotation, as another starting pitcher Matthew Boyd will make his Guardians debut on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs.
The 33-year-old has not pitched since he took the mound for the Detroit Tigers on June 26, 2023 against the Texas Rangers. He had a 5-5 record for the Tigers in 2023 with a 5.45 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 71 innings across 15 starts.
Boyd signed a major league contract with the Guardians back on June 29th. The team will have to make a move with the active roster to make room for the left-handed starter to pitch on Tuesday.
What’s up, Doc?
Vogt also announced that left-handed relief pitcher Sam Hentges (0-0, 3.04) will seek a second opinion on his shoulder after some issues following his last appearance.
He was placed on the injured list on July 12th with shoulder inflammation and has made four rehab appearances, allowing three runs without recording an out in his latest appearance.
