CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Guardians boasted a dynamic offensive duo in Josh Naylor and Amed Rosario, who each had three hits and an RBI in their 5-2 Wednesday night win over the visiting Boston Red Sox.

Rosario's return to the starting lineup after being sidelined with a knee injury (although he did appear as a pinch hitter on Tuesday) included a 3-for-4 plate performance made up of two singles and an RBI double - the last of which scored Steven Kwan from first base in the bottom of the fifth inning.

"His willingness to get down the line consistently...is part of why he gets hits sometimes," Guardians manager Terry Francona said about Rosario after Wednesday's game. "But then he got a couple of [hits], and then he whacked one to left, which was really good."

Naylor, meanwhile, also had two singles and a double in four at-bats, with one of those singles scoring Rosario to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. The score made up for a two-out error that Naylor made in the top half of the fourth, on a bobbled ball while heading to first base that gave the Red Sox a 2-1 lead.

"He was pretty locked in after that," Francona stated on Naylor. "You could tell he wanted to get some payback. He had a pretty eventful night. There wasn't much that happened out there, that he wasn't a part of."

Naylor was, indeed, involved in a few close plays for the Guardians' defense, which sustained two errors for the contest. However, the Red Sox allowed three fielding miscues that allowed Cleveland's offense more chances to produce. One of those miscues came on a Jose Ramírez grounder to third base that was misplayed by Rafael Devers, giving the Guardians a 3-2 lead after Naylor's game-tying single.

Also providing for the Cleveland offense was Josh Bell, whose 2nd-inning RBI single to score Naylor made it six consecutive games for Bell with at least one RBI.

"I think I'm just getting balls in the outfield. Not smothering the baseball, hitting choppers, and stuff like that," said Bell on his recent streak. "But I think there's a lot more coming there."

Ramírez also managed an RBI double in the fifth inning that rounded out the game's scoring, around the same time that Guardians starter Tanner Bibee wrapped up his night. The rookie right-hander overcame early struggles with his command to post a 4-hit, 1-earned run outing over five innings.

I think I got into a little bit of a groove towards the third inning, and it still wasn't perfect," said Bibee. "But I think it got better once the third inning started."

Bibee (2-1), who finished his start with two walks and two strikeouts, did allow just one hit over his final three innings while allowing an unearned run via Naylor's error. Bibee's allowed earned run came in the top of the opening inning on a Devers RBI single to make it 1-0 Boston.

Kutter Crawford (1-3) took the loss for the Red Sox, allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out three over three innings.

Once Bibee exited the game, however, the Red Sox mustered little offensive production against the Guardians' bullpen, which only allowed one hit in four shutout innings to seal the game. Eli Morgan, Sam Hentges, Trevor Stephen, and Emmanuel Clase each posted one scoreless inning of work to win after a Tuesday loss that saw Cleveland's relievers surrender the lead.

The Red Sox (31-31) did manage a late scare with two outs and a runner on in the 9th, when Alex Verdugo launched a deep fly ball to center field. However, Myles Straw tracked down the game-sealing catch at the warning track, just before bumping into the wall. The catch also cemented Clase's league-leading 20th save on the season.

Wednesday's win sets the Guardians record at 28-33, and the team's AL Central standing at 2.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins. Cleveland will play their series finale with the Red Sox on Thursday (7:10 p.m. first pitch), with Aaron Civale (1-1, 2.04 ERA) expected to start for the Guardians.
