Shane Bieber to start opener for Guardians against Royals April 7

CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Shane Bieber will start for the Guardians on opening day in Kansas City.

Bally Sports reporter Andre Knott first reported the news which was announced by the team Thursday afternoon.

Bieber is scheduled to become the 12th pitcher in franchise history to start three consecutive openers.

In 16 starts last season, Bieber went 7-4 with a 3.17 ERA and was named an All-Star for the second time in three years.

Bieber, who won the American League Cy Young award in 2020, boasts a 41-18 career record with a 3.29 ERA in four seasons for Cleveland.

The Guardians will open the season next Thursday against the Royals in Kansas City.

Royals manager Mike Matheny previously announced that Zack Greinke will start for Kansas City.
